Cookie Policy

Summary

  • CalcKit uses cookies for analytics (understanding how the site is used) and advertising (showing you relevant ads).
  • We do not use cookies to track your calculator inputs — those never leave your browser.
  • Cookies are set by Google Analytics and Google AdSense, not by us directly.
  • You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time.
  • Disabling analytics cookies does not affect how the calculators work.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to website owners about how their site is being used.

Cookies cannot run programs or deliver viruses to your device. They are unique to the website that set them and can only be read by that website (or in some cases, by the third-party services that set them on the website's behalf).

2. How CalcKit Uses Cookies

CalcKit uses cookies in two ways: to understand how visitors use the site (analytics) and to deliver advertisements (advertising). We do not use cookies for any other purpose.

Importantly, the numbers and inputs you enter into CalcKit calculators are never stored in cookies or transmitted anywhere. All calculations happen locally in your browser.

3. Cookies We Use

AnalyticsSet by Google Analytics
NamePurposeDuration
_gaRegisters a unique ID to generate statistics about how you use the site2 years
_ga_*Used by Google Analytics 4 to persist session state2 years
_gidRegisters a unique ID used to generate statistical data on site usage24 hours
_gatUsed to throttle request rate to Google Analytics1 minute

Google Analytics uses this data to help us understand which calculators people find useful, how visitors navigate the site, and where traffic comes from. This data is anonymised and aggregated — we cannot identify individual users from it.

AdvertisingSet by Google AdSense

CalcKit is free to use because we display advertisements through Google AdSense. These cookies help Google show you ads that are more relevant to you. They are set by Google, not by CalcKit directly.

4. Your Cookie Choices

Browser settings

Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can set your browser to refuse all cookies, accept only certain cookies, or alert you when a cookie is being set. The steps vary by browser — click the links below for instructions:

Opt out of Google Analytics

To opt out of Google Analytics across all websites, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. This prevents Google Analytics from collecting information about your visits.

Opt out of personalised ads

You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out through the Your Online Choices platform, which covers multiple advertising networks.

Note: opting out of personalised ads means you will still see the same number of ads — they will just be less relevant to you.

Important: Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of some websites, but will not affect how CalcKit calculators work. All calculations run entirely in your browser and do not depend on cookies in any way.

5. Legal Basis

Under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR, we are required to inform you about the cookies we use and obtain your consent for non-essential cookies.

Analytics and advertising cookies are non-essential. By continuing to use CalcKit with cookies enabled in your browser, you consent to the use of cookies as described in this policy.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this cookie policy from time to time, for example if we start using new third-party services or if the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

7. Contact

If you have any questions about how we use cookies, please contact us at [email protected].
